Dry Bones, Live!

Ezekiel 37

Summary

A song drawn from Ezekiel’s vision of dry bones brought to life by God’s word and Spirit.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]

The hand of the Lord was upon me then,
By His Spirit He brought me out and set me down.
Bones filled the valley, exposed and dry,
So many before me—no life in sight.

He led me among them, row after row;
Withered and dry from so long ago.
No voice, no movement, no breath in the air—
Only the evidence death had been there.

Then God broke the silence: “Son of man,
Can these bones live?” I looked over the land.
No life in the valley, no answer my own:
“Sovereign Lord—You alone know.”

[Chorus]

Dry bones—hear the Word of the Lord!
Dry bones—hear the Word of the Lord!

“I will put breath in you,
And you will live!”

Dry bones—hear the Word of the Lord!
Hear the promise of the Lord!

“I have spoken—I will do it!
Then you will know I am the Lord!”

[Verse 2]

He said, “Prophesy—speak to these bones;
Speak what I give you; make My command known.”
I stood in the valley and spoke at His word:
“Dry bones, listen! Hear the Word of the Lord!”

A sound broke the stillness—a rattling shake;
The bones started moving, the valley awake.
Bone joined to bone with a clatter and strain;
Bone joined to bone—each bone to its own.

Muscle and flesh came over each frame;
Skin covered them—but still no breath came.
A valley of bodies lay under my feet—
Fully assembled, but none of them breathed.

[Bridge]

Then He said, “Call to the breath, son of man;
Speak what I give you and do what I command:

Come from the four winds,
O breath—arrive!
Breathe upon these slain ones—
Let them come alive!”

Ruach—come!
Ruach—breathe!
Come from the four winds—

BREATHE INTO THE DEAD!

[Verse 3]

I spoke as commanded—the four winds came;
Breath entered the bodies—they lived once again.
They rose to their feet as the breath entered in—
A vast, mighty army now stood before Him.

Then God said, “Son of man, understand:
These bones are the whole house of Israel.
They cry, ‘Our bones are dry, and our hope is gone;
We’re utterly cut off!’ But the Lord responds:

‘I’ll open your graves and raise you again;
I’ll bring you to Israel, your own land.
I’ll put My Spirit within you—you’ll live;
I’ll settle you there in the land that I give.’”

[Final Chorus]

Dry bones—hear the Word of the Lord!
Dry bones—hear the Word of the Lord!

“I will put breath in you,
And you will live!”

Dry bones—hear the Word of the Lord!
Ruach—come from the four winds!

“I have spoken—I have done it!
Then you will know I am the Lord!”
